With hands-on exhibits, a wildlife centre and a superb planetarium,
the Museum of Science in Miami makes a fantastic, educational and
thoroughly enjoyable day out. The 140 very impressive exhibits
are generally centered around investigations into sound, light
and gravity, dioramas of natural Florida and displays on ocean
life. Fossilised sharks’ teeth, mounted insects, butterflies
and spiders and various geological specimens are spinkled around
the Collections Gallery. The Wildlife Centre boasts a walk-through
aviary, a huge python, tortoises and eagles while the Planetarium
hosts astronomy shows and laser exhibitions. Regular, temporary,
traveling shows and exhibitions take place in the museum. These
are hugely successful and it is well worth while checking the agenda
before visiting. There is certainly something here for everyone
and you will be surprised how quickly the day goes. Be sure to
take plenty of film for your camera to record your memories and
adventures. It is also advisable to bring your own food and drink.
Get to bed early the night before as there is a lot to take in.
The museum opens from 10am-6pm daily, so try to get there before
opening to get yourself sorted.
